touma's backstory

both of touma's parents manage the ▇▇▇ company, often away for work-related trips and travel. due to this, touma was extremely lonely as a child, and never really learned how to make friends, kept inside their house with a nanny for safety. in addition, he was homeschooled, making it even harder for him to socialize and express his emotions "normally".
as he got older, touma started turning to the internet for friends. he started getting more and more introverted (than he already was) and eventually turned into a neet or shut-in (of sorts). he tries to forget his parents, and when he's asked about them in conversation (though rare), he avoids all mention of them, considering himself disowned (in a way). yet his way of thinking is still immature and self-pitying, and his parents do still fund his lifestyle.
slowly, touma discovers football. he falls in love with re al, finally finding a hobby that breaks the constant apathy he feels. he enjoys the rush and thrill in watching his team win... though his fragile mental state doesnt get much better with its losses. he still doesn't attend games in person though, having too much social anxiety...

first meeting

some summers before blue lock, trying to find some way to get him out of the house, touma's parents sign him up for an international summer camp in france for photography.
touma does end up enjoying it, and picks up photography as another hobby, though he puts in minimal effort when interactive with his intructor and other kids at the camp.
out of pure coincidence, touma happens to see loki practicing football in a field while at a public park for one of his photography assignments. though he can't explain the feeling, touma finds himself completely captured by his footballing skills (and him). he ends up taking photographs of loki as a keepsake (though it is a bit creepy. please be kind to him.)

intermission ~

the year he was supposed to start high school, his parents decided to sign him enroll him in Hakuho High School, thinking it would probably be better for his development to quit his homeschooling. being friends with the owners of the mikage corporation (through work connections), touma's parents learn that they happen to have a son the same age. thinking that it'll be helpful for touma to befriend reo mikage (for their work), they buy him a house in japan, thinking that it'll also be good for his independence and that he was mature enough to live alone.

touma isn't told about his parent's plans, and is shocked when he finds himself "shipped off to a completely new country". he despises his parents, knowing that they likely just wanted a way to get him off their hands.
he refuses to go to school, and as his parents didn't send anyone to overlook him, he isn't caught. besides, touma doesn't exactly know japanese... being too lazy when his tutors attempted to teach him. he relies on online shopping to survive in this new country...
on his birthday two years before blue lock, touma decides to commit suicide by jumping from height... but he doesnt think his plan through. he ends up getting lost, this practically being his first time outside his new house. he had gone outside in the early morning hours, thinking that that would be when the least amount of people would be around, yet after wandering in circles, the streets start to get more and more crowded. (it also being a weekend... but he doesn't realize this, having lost track of time). getting more and more anxious, touma runs into a random shop... where he sees julien loki playing for pxg (on a tv screen. he accidentally walked into a football store.) (its also lokis debut match for pxgs first team!)
calling it love at first (second) sight, he recognizes loki. realizing that the boy he had seen last summer is already playing for a professional football team. the thought of suicide completely forgotten, he rushes home to research loki & finds out that he's 15 and a football prodigy.
touma starts to support pxg secondarily (mostly for loki), and learns french. he also actually starts putting in effort to learn japanese, to buy from the previously mentioned football store, and slowly befriends the store workers, learning to get over his social anxiety. becoming more and more used to people, he also starts to travel to watch football games, though he still isn't very confident. (his parents advise him to wear a disguise, and he does, though not for the reasons they think. he thinks he's too pathetic to be seen by anyone... especially when he sees loki get off the team bus. loki notices his repeating presence with his hoodie + mask, but cites it as a coincidence.)— later on, touma cites loki as his savior, saying he saved his life. he's quite fanatical about him... to a creepy extent.— the whole time, touma is hidden away from the public eye. the last published picture of him with his parents was from when he was a toddler, and he doesn't get recognized. friends of the ▇▇▇ company assume he's been estranged or doubt his existence.

joining blue lock

when touma hears of blue lock from his parents, he's immediately intrigued. as his parents had been networking in japan (and knowing members of the japan football union) and were eager to connect with their son (knowing of his interest in football), they told him of the program before its official start. excited, touma begs his parents to allow him to take part in some way. hoping that it'll be a step in repairing their relationship, they pull some strings and get him a spot as a football photographer, though officially it's an internship. (not that ego or anri would have any qualms about hiring teenagers, all things considered.)
touma is given his own (though small) room in the facility, and works on recording the matches for the players to watch. suprisingly, his work isn't that bad considering how amateurish he is, and his artistic talent means that anri has him work on promotional graphics later on.

vs world 5

when ego informs touma that loki (and the rest of the world 5 will be staying at the facility), he tells touma to “act normal”. touma’s entire room at blue lock is covered in posters and various jerseys of julien’s, and anri (and therefore, ego) is aware of his obsession with loki from the few times she’s been in his room to inform him of his assignments, when he first came to blue lock. (now, she just sends them digitally to him.)
pre-game, touma thinks about sneaking into the world 5’s locker room to ask for a photo with loki. he ends up changing his mind though, realizing that he might creep him out…
during the game, touma films the match using a drone (graciously donated by the mikage corporation) while also using another camera to capture footage just of loki. later on, anri does get a bit upset at him… but after reviewing the footage and seeing that it’s still decent, she changes his mind. (and, well, touma’s parents are big-money sponsors of blue lock.)
after the game, touma runs to julien before he leaves through the tunnel. touma stops him after he smiles at the blue lock players, and asks julien for a picture and signature (after lots of rambling). julien is endeared and amused by touma’s puppy-like demeanor and asks him for his name. touma introduces himself, and julien smiles at him and shakes his hand.
the day the world 5 fly back to their various countries, touma begs anri for a day off to say goodbye loki, in exchange for staying and working at the facility when the blue lock players leave for shibuya. anri agrees and gives him the information for loki’s flight, reasoning that it’ll probably motivate him. at this point, he and anri have an amicable relationship (she thinks he’s entertaining when he gets passionate about something).
when touma sees julien about to board his flight, he calls out to him. julien turns around, but says that he’s not too surprised to see touma (anri had informed him earlier). he throws touma his world 5 jersey with his signature and a note (we’ll meet again), bundled around a slip of paper (looking as if ripped off the corner of a napkin) featuring his personal number written on the back, then turns around and steps into his private plane.— before loki plays blue lock, he's given files of the blue lock 11 and information of the workers in the facility. when he sees the ▇▇▇ name, he's shocked that the son of such a large corporation is working in blue lock, and in japan no less. (though it does somewhat explain some of the company's recent activity.) when his agent tells him that the ▇▇▇ boy happens to also be a fan of his, julien sees it as an opportunity. he's kind to touma, and notes that befriending him could raise new opportunities for himself outside the footballing world. he does think touma is a nepo baby, but he thinks hes not boring to be around, at least. he likes playing around with touma. touma strokes his ego, and is proof of his "greatness", so to speak.

neo egoist league

before the nel arc, julien texts touma that he has a suprise for him. at this point, loki has a slight interest in blue lock, after watching them play japan. both he and touma have been texting for a while, though touma does know it's a bit one-sided. they don't talk too often though, as touma worries he's bothering julien and overstepping his boundaries. he gets too self-conscious, and overthinks their conversations. julien thinks it's cute how touma's thoughts are obvious, even over text.
when touma hears of the master strikers arrivals to blue lock, he's impatient and nervous to see julien. he first sees him again while filming clips for blue lock tv. (more cameramen have been hired, but anri still gives touma a majority of the work.) touma spots him when he enters pxg's portion of the blue lock facility to film training clips, and impulsively runs up to him (he regrets this right after, thinking that he's acting weird). they chat slightly, julien acting polite, and he promises to see touma later on in his free time. touma wonders if he's done anything wrong when faced with julien's stand offishness, but shrugs it off. he tells himself that he's not worthy enough to be friends with his "god", and he may have been misreading loki's kind tone over text.
later, julien visits touma in his room and apologizes, saying that it's because he wanted to be professional in front of the team. touma easily accepts this explanation. julien shows him where his room at the facility is, and they slowly get closer during the nel arc.
julien knows that touma has romantic feelings for him and plays along, thinking that it would be interesting. they don't put a label on relationship (and dont officially date), but they slowly start spending more and more time together in julien's room. eventually, touma starts sleeping over in julien's room. near the middle of the nel arc, touma convinces anri to reassign him to only pxg's portion of blue lock for filming. she agrees due to the increase in bllk workers.
few of the blue lock players note their closeness, especially shidou. he keeps his observations to himself, dropping hints to touma that he knows just to see his reaction. julien doesn't really like it, but doesn't say anything.
slowly, julien finds that his flirting with touma and his acting starts getting realer. julien is unsure what to do with this new revelation, disliking the way it makes him feel too human. in addition, he starts to feel guilty about his previous intentions (to manipulate touma, basically).
when julien comes to touma to rant about pxg's 3-2 loss to bm, touma takes it as a good sign. he enjoys the fact that julien is coming to him to talk about his feelings (and he also likes when he gets competitive), but his mind wanders to scenarios where he hurts julien with his words. touma often fantasizes about hurting julien, but he hasn't act on his impulses, knowing that before, the gap between him and julien (practically his god) was too large. he had to make julien care about him, first.
what touma truly wants is to make julien scared of him and to keep him to himself. he knew about julien's true feelings from the start, and planned to act innocent to change his opinion. touma thinks its cute how julien drinks in his praises, and how he thinks he's manipulating touma. (when the truth is the opposite, in a way.)

u20 world cup

a week before the u20 wc, they celebrate julien's birthday! touma suprises him by flying to france for a day (he had to call a suprised loki to pick him up) accompanied by tickets to an amusement park, and they spend their afternoon on rollercoasters in the empty park (touma rented it out... with his infinite funds).
during the break the blue lock players got between the u20 wc and the nel, julien finds touma acting different. he doesn't grow distant, but he does cool off with the attachment and starts acting more "normal" (?). touma tells him it's because he's been busy with bllk, prepping for nigeria.
when japan plays france, touma hopes france wins. despite living in japan, he's always loved the french national team (and england). he's watching the match front row, still having to capture photos for blue lock, of course.wip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
